OK boys I am changing up my tactics, especially with the map. For certain we are making a new map, but what kind is what interests me. Here are some ideas of mine and Friedrichs. Once we decide on a type, we can start discussions of what we want it to look like.
1. Classic map, every faction has a keep, map made as planned by mapping team. What we are all used to.
2. Custom map, designed based on the wants of the community and the accepted factions. Would be hard to communicate exactly what we wanted and would take a while to get rolling, but once it goes it will be done according to the communities desires. Would take a few weeks to design.
3. Persistent Colony. This is my personal favorite idea, brainstormed with Friedrich. This map design would feature an entirely new area, if picking from the map I personally enjoy the island cluster south-west of Rhodok territory.
Basically this would be an open map, starting with one port/village, and having players collect resources and RP to build where they want, and set up other towns/villages where they want. This would allow the map to evolve with the community over time, and for people to establish themselves as lords until factions arrive, or even fighting off major factions in events. This would allow for groups (NOT CLANS) to establish themselves in a fight for power and land, while it is being built, or to peacefully co-operate and grow, all depending on you guys. If a building is damaged, it will be replaced with prop of a destroyed building until it is repaired, and castles and forts can be built and expanded as long as resources are gathered. This will also open a MASSIVE market for carpenters, cobblers, masons, and smiths, as they will be needed to construct or repair buildings. Or just hunters building shacks off in the woods which eventually turn into farms. This can also lead to some interesting situations if a noble travels to the land with a group, setting up a fort and claiming the land for themselves, which the locals may or may not agree to.
This also means the map can be built very very quickly and be beautiful as we are only worrying about scenery and raw materials. All buildings would be marked and built by players IC, so the map would progress over time.
It is rather obvious which one I am in favor of, but I want to hear your ideas and get your opinion as I have been a bit neglectful.
