Born in a typical village in the Swadian homelands, Walden was the 3rd son born to a family of serfs, with two older brothers and four younger, as well as an older sister and three younger. Walden grew up a serf just like everyone else in both his family and his village. He farmed and lived a fairly boring life, hunting with his brothers in the forest often, especially when the harvest was bad. Walden's father had served as a archer in the Lord's army for a brief period of time when he was raised as a levy, at taught Walden and his brothers how to shoot and hunt. Walden and his brother soon grew proficient with the bow and became the most well fed family in the area. Walden's only fear were of wolves, as they often stole the hunt and almost killed him once at the age of nine as he went out for a hunt with his older brothers and was separated. Once every few months a local priest would visit the village to teach them of the ways of the maker and attempt to educate them as best as he could. Walden was never serious about learning to read and write, but was still able to learn enough to get by.
When Walden was sixteen, he and his older brothers were among the village men conscripted into the Lords levy as another war between the Rhodoks and Swadians broke out. The three of them were assigned bowmen after the village levy was assigned roles thanks to their reputation. Walden was excited to be fighting and looked forward to his first battle. His first battle however, was a disaster. The Lords army was caught while moving to join the marshals forces, and most of the knights in the army were quickly shot down by the Rhodok crossbows. Despite managing to survive along with a handful of the Lords men, both of Walden's older brothers were killed in the pointless skirmish and Walden soon grew to hate serving. The war went on for several years before a treaty was made between the Swadians and the Rhodoks. Walden by this time had become a fairly proficient fighter, earning himself promotions and able to have looted enough to earn himself a small pouch of gold and some mail armor.
Walden then returned home, only to find his village had been pillaged and burned in the war, and that all his younger brothers had also been conscripted and killed in the war. His father had died attempting to defend the village, and his mother and sisters had been carried off. In despair, Walden traveled about, joining a gang of "mercenarys" only to discover they were actually bandits after they raided a caravan. Disillusioned with warfare, Walden sold his gear and went back to hunting, surviving off his bow and looking for a new place to call home. He eventually came into the Valley of Swamps and entered a small town by the name of "Glunmar," deciding to call it his new home.
Equipment: Bow, huntsmen clothing, leather boots, hood, arrows.
