Backround/History:
Iomhar was born on an island off the coasts of the Swadian and Rhodok kingdoms, in the kingdom of Tir Eoghain. The Kingdom of Tir Eoghain was ruled by his father, Ri Domhnall, and his wife, Riona Brianna. At the age of of 5, Iomhar's brother, Chullain, was born. Chullain was born out of wedlock, with his father being Domhnall and his mother Maria, an unwed courtier. Iomhar felt responsible for his brother at the age of 6, once he recieved his first weapon, a bow. Iomhar took up the bow and trained with a child's passion for something new. His father claimed that he was a great shot, but Iomhar knew he was nothing special. So, only a year later, he began a new journey to learn many things such as how to read and stewardship, as well as basic commanding of armies, in preperation for the day when he take his father's place upon the throne. It was around this time that some Searaiders. who came from far off lands, began to take interest in the kingdom of Tir Eoghain. Iomhar was trained by his father himself, as well as many lords and later, by many of the kingdoms best warriors, on how to fight at the age of 10, when he recieved his first sword. Being older now, he had a respect for the grace in weaponry, and not just the fun to shoot an arrow. Iomhar trained with the sword for hours every day. He knew this was a weapon he could do well with.
Three years afterwards, the first skirmishes began between the Kingdom of Tir Eoghain and the Searaiders. Iomhar's first true tests began when he was sent to lead an attack on a landing party. It was a successful attack, but during the fight, Iomhar was nearly killed by a man who came after him. His previous training saved his life, but after noticing several scars, he realized that death was not something he wished for, at least not from a Searaider. After leading several more attacks on the Searaiders throughout the next 2 years, Iomhar became an adept commander and skilled sword fighter. But he came closer and closer to death. Many of the soldiers under his command felt he was becoming afraid of a fight for the sake of his own life. This was true, but he would not admit it. It was on his 15th skirmish that he ran into a situation which would change his look upon death. Iomhar was told he must protect one of the outermost villages, if he could, to prove to his father he was nearly ready for something more. It was all a trap, the Searaiders had already prepared, and even scared many of the farmers into fighting for them. Iomhar's men were utterly destroyed, but Iomhar himself was able to escape. But as he fled, he realized the screams were not of his men, who were already silenced, but of women and children. It struck his heart, right down to the base. He knew the Searaiders were monsters and would kill him if they got the chance. He would accept the death planned for him if required, as long as it saved as many of his future peoples as he could. But even he was no idiot, so he fled from the village, waiting for another chance to prove himself, and letting his father deal with the mess. After returning, Iomhar trippeled his fighting his fighting efforts, falling in love with his sword. To him, the sword was only an extension, and he felt he had to hone that part of him, so he was often found training. However, at the age of 16, he found a new thing which he loved, courting ladies. He entered many tournaments in hopes of earning a name, and a wife.
It didn't take him long to find Nora, the woman whom he married, and when Iomhar was 17, his son was born. Cahan, Iomhar's son, was his pride. He loved him very much, and was known to occasionally send the kingdoms captains on his own missions, just to spend time with his son. He cared well for his son, throughout the Searaiders increasing attacks. Many attacks burnt down old villages, other more daring attacks were mounted against the castle itself, to sneak in and steal treasure. During these attacks, Nora was killed at the blade of a Searaider, and Iomhar's hate for Searaiders grew only stronger. It was said that he wound up enraged so very much that he would go on attacks against the Searaiders landing camps, take their own boats, and sail for weeks, destroying any newly landed boats, stranding Searaiders to then be attacked the next day. Such tactics had not yet been seen in the humble kingdom of Tir Eoghain, but many believe it has saved hundreds of lives. But even he could not see what would happen in the future. The Kingdom warded off the Searaiders for the next eight years, but at the age of 23, Iomhar had his son trained by his brother, Chullain. Cahan was only 6 at the time. After the 8 years were up, and Iomhar was 25, the Searaiders stopped attacking, but Iomhar was sure something was wrong. He convinced his father to begin building a massive boat, to save his family if anything were to bring down the kingdom of Tir Eoghain. The quiet lasted for 4 years, until suddenly a massive army of Searaiders attacked the kingdom of Tir Eoghain.
The siege cost many their lives, and the siege lasted for nearly 5 months. Hundreds of soldiers and commoners alike died and as the battle continued, Domhnall saw the danger to the kingdom, and handed the crown to Iomhar, telling him to take everyone he could and leave. Iomhar began to gather his people to the boat, as Domhnall fought. But Iomhar had no time to save Domhnall who was taken by the Searaiders. Enraged, Iomhar fought back, with Chullain at his side. It nearly cost him his life as well when Iomhar was nearly shot in the head, yet his own son yanked him out of battle. Iomhar owed his life to his son, but the dangers did not stop there, for there was a new road ahead of his family. Out of the royal family, only Iomhar, Cahan, and Chullain were to escape with their lives. They took with them many islanders from the Kingdom of Tir Eoghain, but they also had to leave so many behind. Iomhar mourned for his people, especially his father, for days, as the boat sailed on towards the mainland of Calradia. Upon arriving at the mainland, Iomhar began his quest to unite the lost islanders living in Calradia, and rebuild his father's kingdom.
In Character History:
Iomhar was quick to find friends in the mainland. First he met a man by the name of Murphy McDonough. Murphy was a very good man, and helped Iomhar find his place in the new world around him. However, Murphy had some issues with a man by the name of Alexander Haleheart. Iomhar was sad when not too long after their own meeting, Murphy was slain at the hand of Alexander. Iomhar, enraged by the brutes merciless attitude, attacked the man, but lost the fight, after months of weakness sailing the seas. He woke up later, to find the Alexander had grown to dislike Iomhar's kingdom, and was about to siege their own castle. Quickly, Iomhar gathered his son close by and they fought hard. They fought until they were down to the last eighth of the great attacking army. But they were separated and overrun.
They lost the castle for a week or so, and during that time, Iomhar befriended Vincent Haleheart, the son of Alexander Haleheart. They had many good times, but it ended once they began a drinking contest, only to be interrupted by the some Leatherwoods, who arrested Vincent's mother and Vincent. They let vincent go, which Iomhar was relieved to hear, but Vincent's mother had reportedly been killed. Vincent had also come up with a plan to assasinate his father, feeling he was not worthy of leading their house. However, Alexander somehow figured out the plot, and had Vincent gravely wounded (non-ck, but hasn't played such character since) and sent away. It was around this time that the Halehearts had seemed to abandon Jelkala, so the Kingdom of Tir Eoghain reclaimed the castle. As the moved back in, they found another islander who had come to the mainland, and he joined them. His name was Ien Fihnley. It was around this time when word finally reached Iomhar of Alexander's death. Iomhar was glad, and peace had come to Tir Eoghain once more. Ien Fihnley began to run the Clover Inn, outside the main castle of Jelkala. And so begun a week of quiet.
But the inn brought trouble, around the same time Iomhar accepted a new follower to join his great kingdom, Simon Songwell. The Inn brought men such as Domovoi Boleshkov, who disliked the Islanders. It brought Iomhar to a massive barfight, which ended quite well, with the help of a fellow soldier Aoife who had joined the kingdom after Murphy's death. It also brought around Garth Dobinson, a man who Iomhar had heard of, and so began a great battle, ending in imprisonment. It began as Iomhar told Garth that he had heard of him, a great man indeed. Garth was not sure how to take this, and so he asked to speak with Iomhar outside. It was around this time a plot was made against Garth, and Garth suspected that Iomhar's brother, Chullain, was part of it. Many other things ensued in the discussion, till it ended in a quick battle. Iomhar attempted to help all of his allies, but was caught from behind by Garth, and as he turned to face Garth, he was already down upon his knees.
He stood up, however, being quite stubborn, and asked to duel Garth. He failed, unaware that he had a fractured knee. The duel ended with a large gash set upon Iomhar's chest, and he was knocked out for several minutes. Again, however, upon wakening, he was stubborn, until Harry Elwood, a man of reason, arrived. He finally convinced Iomhar to go with him, and Iomhar wound up in prison. There he spent a day, getting healed and his knee repaired. But then arrived Mary Farthingdale, a woman who Iomhar had previously met. She, forced by Iomhar's words, bailed out Chullain, who then, turned himself in for the release of Iomhar and his newest soldier, Simon Songwell. Iomhar was unhappy with Chullain's decision, but finally accepted it. He was jailed for several weeks, until, by sudden waves, plague set in upon the land where they lived. All men fled from that land, to an archipelago by the name of Yore. Iomhar, of course, had freed Chullain, to save him from the plague. They landed there, with all their followers, to start once more, at a place named by locals, "Old Port." ~More coming as story progresses.~
