Balski was born in a prosperous village on the border with the Vaegirs. This village had been disputed between the Swadians and Vaegirs for decades, and the Vaegirs would frequently raid. This situation forced Balski to have to learn how to defend himself and his home. He was taught how to ride when he was a boy, and was able to defend his village against raiders, thanks to a new invention from the Swadian heartland, the crossbow. He became skilled in using his new crossbow, and was able to shoot a Vaegir raider off his horse 200 meters away. The village soon became sight of many bloody battles, as the Swadian lords began to use it as their base of operations whenever they launched invasions into the Vaegir mountains. But everything changed when a strong vaegir lord was able to unite all the mountain clans and Vaegir boyars under one banner. They soon invaded a unprepared Swadia, who had just finished a bloody war with the Nords. The Swadian lords, who had for a long time used Balski's village as a staging point, abandoned it to the Vaegirs. Balski and his friends were unable to stop the Vaegir horde, and his village was looted and sacked, many were put to the sword, but a few were captured as slaves, including Balski. The Vaegir horde later smashed the Swadian army into bits, and pushed on to siege Praven. Balski was one of many who was forced to dig trenches for the Vaegir siege lines, as he was fired upon by the defenders. The siege dragged on for months, and the Vaegirs soon hoped to end it. They began to tunnel under the walls, creating a huge system of tunnels, which would allow the entire horde to go under the walls and into the city. However the Vaegirs did not expect their slaves to disobey them, and Balski and a brave few had sabotaged the tunnels in the night, removing support beams and causing the tunnels to become very unsteady. When the sun began to rise, the Vaegir forced let out a fierce war cry, and stormed into the tunnels. The huge amount of men running into the tunnels, combined with the loss of support beams, caused the tunnel to collapse, and almost all of the horde was wiped out. The defenders then sallied out, destroying the remnants of the Vaegir force. Balski and the other slaves were set free, but were not allowed entrance to the city, and were given no food or shelter. The Swadian lords who had defended the city also took credit for the defeat of the horde, even though it belonged to the slaves. Balski decided to gather what he could from the burned out husk that used to be the Vaegir siege camp, and set out on the road. He would never again trust a lord, and hated both the Swadians, and Vaegirs.
Equipment: Crossbow, chain armor, kettel helmet, leather boots, long sword
Death: Balski was taking in a prisoner with his fellow town watch member, Knebel, when he was halted upon the road by New Zendar members. They demanded the release of the outlaw, and after refusing, they attacked. Balski and Knebel fought bravely, but were surrounded and outnumbered. They were knocked out and taken to the New Zendar castle, where They threw Knebel in the dungeons, and then proceded to throw Balski off the roof. Balski swore vengeance from the grave, and his spirit will haunt their castle.
