Max was born to a humble family of farmers just outside of the great Swadian City of Praven. He had three brothers and one sister who were raised by their parents from the beginning to work the rich, arable land that surrounded the city. Everyday was the same, they would wake up every morning and do their assigned tasks. Max being the eldest sibling by three years was obviously more suited for the harder field work with his father while his siblings tended to the more menial tasks. The field work often consisted of plowing land, planting fields of wheat, moving hay bales, as well as cutting down trees for much needed firewood. From an early age Max began to build a solid physique due to this manual labor. For much of his early life Max lived this simple lifestyle, this would change.
At the age of 13 the Kingdom of Swadia went to war with the Kingdom of Nords and as a result many of the soldiers defending Praven had left for the military campaign. A notorious group of bandits known as the Free Ravens took advantage of the absence of soldiers and began to pillage the surrounding villages. Max had woken up just like every other day to commence his daily ritual and was in the fields with his father at the time of the attack. They both recognized smoke coming from their village as the huts were being torched to the ground and soon they could make out the screams of women and children. His father told him to hide in one of the hay bales and covered him so he could not be seen then ran off towards the village. After several grueling hours the sound of rape and murder subsided and Max emerged from the hay bale and ran to the village. Everywhere he looked he saw people slaughtered and he began to fear the worst. When he finally got to his hut he cried out in rage and grief as he found his parents and siblings dead on the ground, mutilated to the point where you could not recognize them. Max walked away and feinted soon after.
He would awake in the back of a carriage, one belonging to a slave trader. While he was unconscious the slave trader had come through the pillaged villages and took anything or anyone of value that remained. The slave trader brought him and a few other broken villagers to the kingdom of Rhodoks where he set them up to be sold at a local slave market in the country. Many of the other people being sold would end becoming servants or whores but one man in particular saw that Max was different. He saw that Max was well built for someone as young as he was and saw a fiery rage in his eyes. This man would be the one to introduce Max to the fighting pits. From that point on Max was forced to train to fight in the pits and he embraced it. He learned many different fighting techniques from other pit fighters and would mix together to create his own unique fighting style that was very unpredictable. For years he trained and became a hardened warrior eventually building a very reputable persona through many victories. His master always made sure that his fighters followed a code of honor, one that made sure they would only fight in the most honorable way possible as "one who is honorable, will be one who sees victory". It wouldn't be long before Max was invited to a tournament hosted in the honor of the King of Rhodoks. He would be fighting the King's champion and if he were to win he would be granted freedom. Before the tournament he had thought he would never be free; he had lost everything and had embraced fighting as his new lifestyle. A chance of freedom was a chance of vengeance and justice for his family and neighbors who were killed by the Free Ravens.
Fueled by his desire for revenge and justice Max fought furiously and would eventually defeat the King's Champion. He was granted his freedom and now he could do anything he desired. Along with his freedom Max was also rewarded a hefty sum of coin and instead of spending it on novelties he set straight for the path of justice. Using the money he had won he went around the land gathering together a hardy band of warriors and equipped them with the best gear he could afford. Soon he set off back to Swadia with a small group of 20 good men who were all hardened warriors. While Max was fighting in the pits Swadia had lost the war and as a result has a serious manpower issue. When Max and his band arrived at Praven they found the city to be a pile of filth ran by corrupt officials bought off by the Free Ravens. Crime was rampant and everywhere you looked innocent people were suffering. With his party of men they set about the streets cleaning them of crime. It wasn't long before the Free Ravens took notice and confronted Max. Max addressed them of the crimes they had committed and challenged the bandit leader to a duel to the death. At first it seemed it would be so but the bandit being the dishonorable scum he was had his henchmen attack Max nearly killing him a powerful cut to his back with a sword. Max's men jumped into the fray quickly killing many of the untrained bandits and their leader. After seeing so many of the comrades slain the bandits fled town and the Free Ravens had been dispersed. The government officials assumed Max was an outlaw looking to take over and thought that the best way to gain his trust was to care for him. For several months their healers nursed Max back to strength. When they confronted him about payment for immunity Max exploded in rage and left, quickly travelling to the Swadian capital to give word of the events that had unfolded in Praven. The King and his council were very thankful for Max's actions and offered him to become the head of the Swadian Guard. Max declined swearing to help those who cannot help themselves, he could not let anything like what happened to him happen to anyone else.
From that day on Max Wehner dedicated his life to the servitude of justice so that those who are guilty may be punished accordingly. He disbanded his band of men and headed off into unknown lands with with nothing but his sword and mail and a strong sense of virtue and justice.
